Great Fishing in Alabama!
41' Hatteras the "DISTRACTION"

Family Fun • Near Shore • Kids

Q. What do you get when you put Dad, Mom, Grandpa (he’s paying) and the kids on a big comfortable boat for a 4-hour near shore cruise?

A. A half day of smiles and laughs! The Gulf’s blue sky and warm sun. Lots of pictures. ‘Sirius’ satellite radio. A panorama view of extensive beaches and expensive condos. Dolphins circling the boat. Kids driving the boat. All this only to be interrupted by “FISH ON!!

A great time for all, even the crew! When I was a kid, fishing with my Dad, I had to sit still and make no noise. Also, Moms and Sisters did not fish.

Today everyone can fish. Whether a novice or a seasoned veteran we have an Economy package for you.

Sugar sand, emerald water and a host of attractions are just a few of the reasons why Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida have become the popular and growing vacation hot-spot. Although the Alabama gulf coast is widely known for having the best Snapper fishing on earth, finding a reputable company for your deep-sea fishing has, until now, been difficult at best.

Captain Kurt Sportfishing Charters provides you with the most reliable and comprehensive near shore and deep sea fishing information available. We can custom tailor a fishing adventure for you with all the details fully explained before you arrive. A turn-key, hassle-free fishing excursion unfolds.

What We Catch
Depending on the time of year, these fish are available on your fishing charter: Red Snapper, White Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, Gag Grouper, Red Grouper, Warsaw Grouper, Scamp Grouper and Triggerfish are commonly caught while bottom fishing. King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bonita, Wahoo, Dolphin, Redfish (Bull Reds), Tuna and Marlin are common while trolling in the Gulf of Mexico.

My 4-hour (half-day) Family Fun trip is structured around (3) three goals:
1. Time Saving: Many people do not have the time for an all-day fishing trip.
2. Inexpensive: A low cost, economy fishing trip.
3. Private: It’s your boat, your crew, your time and day. (no walk-ons).

I offer (4) four 4-hour Family Fun Packages with morning and afternoon departures. Packages start at $650.

Question & Answers

Over the years, I have listened to your questions, concerns and suggestions. These inputs have guided the development of my charter business. Your requests brought about the 4-hour cruise for those without the time or desire for a full day on the water. These shorter, near shore, light tackle trips have become very popular and very productive because of the abundance of fish to catch.

Here are some frequently asked Questions:

Q.We have never deep-sea fished before, what do we do?
A. Just show up with your sunglasses, sun tan lotion, some food and we do the rest. I will go over everything about the charter with you before you arrive. During the trip, we are there for you. The crew will address all your concerns, questions, and desires.

Q. How long should we fish?
A. For many families (4) four hours on the water is plenty with enough time to catch a variety of quality fish. That’s four hours of fun, four hours of sun, and four hours of fishing!

Q. How far out do we go?
A. Until we run out of fuel (just kidding). We can stay insight of land and still have a good variety of fish to target. Remember, it’s your charter, we can stay out as long as you like and go out as far as you wish, schedule permitting.

Q. Do we share the boat with others?
A. No. I only do private charters. No walk-ons.

Q. When do we leave and return?
A. I operate (2) two, 4-hour Family Fun trips per day: with morning and afternoon departures. Longer trips, one per day.

Q. Does the boat have a “potty”?
A. Sort of, a pink bucket for girls, guys just go over the side. Seriously, I have a fully operational head and shower. Also, a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, ‘Sirius’ satellite radio (for that Tide / Tiger game), air-conditioning and heat, comfortable cabin seating with a coffee table and drink holders and fishing magazines for your convenience.

Q. Is the boat safe?
A. The “Distraction” was remodeled in 2003 including:
• New twin diesel CAT’s
• Air-conditioning / heating system
• State-of-the-art electronics; navigation and fish finders
• All required USCG safety equipment
• And more

You will receive a safety procedure briefing on the location and use of safety items before leaving the dock.

Q. Do we bring our own food and drinks?
A. Food, drinks and alcoholic beverages are up to you. (The dock store is well stocked with boating items.)

Vermillion & Grey Snappers
Q. Will you show us how to fish?

A. Here is where we shine! As we leave the marina my deckhand will explain how to use the fishing equipment, show you the bait and how to rig it for the fish we are targeting. Unlike many charters who fish as fast as they possibly can, we take time to “enjoy the moment”. A kid’s first catch, a trophy size fish, or a fish you have never seen (or us!). These moments are definitely picture time. We advocate CPR (Catch, Photograph, and Release). Or as my partner Captain Troy says, “Keep the best- release the rest”.

Q. What if you don’t want to fish?
A. You don’t WANT to fish? Well, you will become the picture taker, the sandwich maker, the drink getter, and the scout for Mahi-Mahi, Dolphin, Sea Turtles, and Marine Birds.

OR
Just get away! Take a book, sunglasses, suntan lotion, and large cabin cushion to the spacious front deck and just sun and relax.

Q. What if I don’t LIKE to fish?
A. You don’t LIKE to fish? Wow! Never fear, you will have the day to shop and visit some of the numerous attractions Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola, and Mobile have to offer. (Visit Attractions where I have listed (15) fifteen attractions for your consideration.)

Q. How can I reserve a date and time?
A. CALL toll-free, 1-866-456-KURT (5878) or visit Booking/Email. That’s it! I book up to a year in advance. Summer season books up in a hurry, especially Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. Call me today – let’s go fishing!

Alabama deep sea fishing
A Big Game Trip

Serious Anglers

Because you fish year round, so do we. Our climate controlled cabin will keep you cool in the Summer or comfortably warm in those Fall, Winter, and Spring fishing trips.

I provide a variety of fishing styles:
• Reef (bottom) fishing
• Blue water, deep-sea Marlin trolling
• Redfish
•Cobia
• Tuna
• Shark

Fishing the reefs (bottom fishing) is our most popular fishing trip. Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana’s gulf coast waters contain hundreds of natural and artificial reefs. These provide a habitat for most of the fish we target. We know where the “spots” are through our electric, fish finding equipment. An advantage to drifting-the-spots is that everyone fishes at the same time. A rule-of-thumb more baits in the water, the more fish in the boat.

Blue water, deep-sea Marlin trolling is becoming increasingly more popular among the serious anglers. Although trolling is mostly associated with “bill-fishing”, many other big game fish inhabit the northern gulf waters of Alabama and Florida. Tuna, Mackerel, Wahoo, and Dolphin fish cruise these waters with Marlin and Sailfish. My 41’ Hatteras sportfisher is fully rigged and ready to go. Feel the fight – Experience the “Distraction”. (Visit What’s Biting)

Summer Fishing (May – August) understandably is our busiest season. That’s why I take bookings up to a year in advance. However, Fall, Winter, and Spring Fishing (September – April) offers many advantages:
• Fewer boats fishing.
• Less pressure on the fish.
• Some fish only present in these months.
• More fishing dates available.
• Plenty of lodging available in this “off-season”.

Serious Anglers

These deep sea fishing trips depart about 6AM and return on schedule or when you decide! I suggest you give me a call so we (YOU and I) can plan a trip to meet your needs. We can target a fish or target an area. We can have on board any special gear or baits. We have the time to bottom fish or troll. 8-hour minimum.

Question & Answers

Q. What can we catch?
That depends upon a lot of variables, such as; what time of year, hours fishing, area fishing, and baits used. The longer you are out, the more time available to target different fish, use different baits and fish in different areas.

(Visit What’s Biting for a detailed synopsis of targeting fish by month and how we fish for them.)

Q. Can I bring my own fishing gear?
A. Certainly. Of course the crew will check it out. That’s how we learn.

Q. Where are you located?
A. The “Distraction” is in slip A-8 at Zeke’s Marina, Orange Beach, Alabama. Orange Beach is approximately ten miles east of Gulf Shores, Alabama and thirty miles west of Pensacola, Florida. Birmingham, Alabama is about three hours north.

Q. What facilities does the Marina have?
A. Zeke’s Marina is a full service facility for charter boats and guests. For the guest:
• Ample (secure) parking.
• Nice Dock.
• Clean Restrooms.
• Restaurants (cook your catch!).
• A dock store.
• Fish cleaning stations.

Q. Why should I charter the “Distraction”?
A.
• Professional crew.
• Tournament tested and won.
• You can bait, cast, hook, and reel in your own fish.
• You can bring your own fishing gear.
• We will cook you lunch from your catch.
• See Dolphins, Sea Turtles, and Marine birds.
• The experience –
you will feel good – spending time on the water fishing and just relaxing.

Q. How can I reserve a date and time?
A. CALL toll-free, 1-866-456-KURT (5878) or visit Booking/Email. That’s it! I book charters up to a year in advance. Summer season books up in a hurry, especially Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. Call me today – let’s go fishing!
